Share Your Story on World Sight Day

I can see the leaves on the trees. I can read the board. I can now get A’s. I love my new glasses. Thank you. These are just some of the words our patients have expressed to OneSight volunteers over the years. As Luxottica acknowledges World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness held to focus global attention on blindness and visual impairment, we want to remember the patients our Passionate volunteers during serve every day through Clinics, in-store and community programs.

While we have helped more than eight people worldwide, there are still 284 million people who are visually impaired. More than 80% of those suffering could be helped with a pair of eyewear. As a global leader in eye care, Luxottica is well-positioned to help those in need. Our employees and affiliated doctors care for the eyes of our customers each day and through OneSight, are able to help those who cannot afford or do not have access to vision care.

To expand our reach beyond our traditional programs, OneSight is working with partners to establish sustainable vision care Clinics around the world. OneSight provides equipment and training to locals and other partner agencies who can provide eye care and eyewear year round.

Sustainable care is already happening in The Gambia through a partnership with Sightsavers International and in Chicago with the Illinois College of Optometry. OneSight volunteers are currently working with CityLink in the Cincinnati area to create a similar model for adults and children in need. CityLink is expected to launch in 2012.

Through our current programs and sustainable care models, we look forward to hearing and seeing the powerful reactions of millions more as they put on a pair of glasses for the first time.
