Day 5 and Day 6

Day 5
Thursday was Day 5 for us and we had the pleasure of working with the young and talented kids at Camp Mariah. We had such a great day with 151 screens, 10 no rx's, 99 glasses, and 11 shuttle jobs....that's team Fishkill!! What we loved about Camp Mariah (yes Mariah as in Mariah Carey) is the kids have to commit to four years at the camp. Camp Mariah focuses on developing the talents and careers of the kids, and getting them prepared for college. We learned that all the kids were preparing for mock interviews for their career focus and the best interview from each catergory would get hired. We also learned Camp Mariah helps the kids prepare for their ACT's and SAT's, so all-in-all these kids are getting prepared for college and life after college...now that's amazing!
After having two days off and being away from the kids, I felt we were ready to run back to them because we missed them so much. We couldn't wait to get back to them and tell them about our adventures in their big city, and as the clinic is gets closer and closer to the finish line we can't help but feel a little sad.
Day 6
Yesterday, we were back at Camp ABC (Anita Bliss Coler) the all girls camp and what a time we had. It was the second night for the new group of girls and they were so much fun. We hung out with the ladies while they waited to see the doctors and talked, sung songs, danced, and played double dutch (I was very rusty). All the young ladies I came across were very well mannered and thankful for us being there and I was very proud of them all. The girls seemed so mature for their ages and very confident. I really don't think I had half the confidence these girls have when I was their age. I was outside the van talking, chatting and taking pictures with the girls while they waited to see the doctors. I started taking pictures of the scenery and one of the girls outright told me how she knew how to pose for the camera because she was cute! This cracked me up so I we decided to have a mini photo shoot so she could show off her modeling talent....I think I found our future Next Top Model!!
Over the past week we have been very lucky to have some of the most amazing volunteers helping us out and helping the day to go smoother. So thank you to all the volunteers for your hardwork and for taking time out of your busy schedules to help add to the success of the clinic! We love you all!!!!
After camp the team did this high ropes course and it was very fun but we are all sore and exhausted from it. Try stepping out of your comfort zone 30 ft. off the ground, while trying to keep yourself balanced on a wire. I was so proud of my team and what we accomplished today. What I took away from the high ropes was the only person that could keep you from accomplishing your task/goals is yourself. But when you have a team there to cheer you on it makes it that much easier to get it done and exceed your expectations because you're not alone. Kudos to my team!!!
