First day of clinic in Rasasani

Wow, it's amazing how different our new clinic site is.  The area is very dry, desert, flat, and different wild life.  There are huge birds that have migrated from Sieria for the winter.  They are flamingo size, white with red heads, quite a sight.  The weather is much warmer and windy.  Our tents keep falling apart in an attempt to fly off. The women in the village seem to have to walk very far in order to bring home water in the silver pails they carry on their heads.

Today we helped 939 people from this village.  We saw lots of need for cataract surgery and sadly, lots of people (old and young) who have already lost sight due to decease, infection or other issues.  Today we had a mom bring in her baby of about 12 months who was born blind.  A child came in with a large tumor in the back of his eye that we were able to refer out for ophthalmic care.  It's hard.  The good news is that most of the recipients leave with glasses that will help improve their vision and we hope, make life easier.
