Clinic Blog: 2011 Mexico 2 Clinic Blog
September 7, 2011
We helped over 1400 people yesterday!
After two non-clinic days (and a very lucrative silent auction) to experience Mexican culture and recharge our batteries, we were back at it yesterday and boy did it show! We had our busiest day so far this clinic where the final number helped was 1414! We all have learned to work well together and do everything we can to help eachother out. The heat index was over 115 degrees but we still able to work harder than we have since our srrival.
One patient in particular made quite the journey to get to us. A woman with a very sick son who needed glasses very badly brought him from 3 hours away. After waiting outside for some time, they got to the gate but wehad closed the clinic doors for the day. After a very brief discussion among the leadership, we let them come in of course! The mother was so grateful and excited she could hardly contain her emotions.
One patient in particilar that was very appreciative works at our hotel. He has been great at helping make our stay here comfortable and always with a smile on his face. He and his wife and child all came to the clinic yesterday to receive glasses! He was so happy when we saw him at the team dinner all he wanted to do was show us his new glasses!
We also had another patient who had a Rx of -11.00 and was getting glasses for the first time. It's always amazing to see the emotions on patient's faces when they see clearly for the first time!
We also had a Birthday to celebrate for Juanita Tovar! We sang to her before the the clinic opened yesterday and again at the team dinner. We had a special cake for her and some of the staff of the hotel also joined in the singing!

Hola!!!
A presto
