Detroit final day
By mfigart
We have come to the end of our clinic. It is a jouful time but also a sad one. We are joyful that we were able to screen 2584 kids with 2285 needing glasses! We even raised $10,884 at the time of this posting. It is sad because we all became fast freinds that were able to form a cohesive bond that made this clinic flow as smooth as it did. We have all made some great friendships and better yet have helped the great city of Detroit.
We would like to thank the Detroit Public Schools for their help and support. Ive never seen registration run this smooth.
We would like to thank Ford. Without Ford this would not have been possible. From the use of their building to the tons of Ford volunteers everyday. Your support is much much appreciated.
The caterer. Im pretty sure we have all gained at least ten pounds from those phenominal lunches.

Detroit week 2 Days 2 and 3. Bubbles for Brianna
By mfigart
Days 2 and 3 of week two has been busy, emotional, inspiring and most of all fun. Today we saw 319 children and 289 had need. FANTASTIC. We were able to dispense to two schools and had a fabulous time. Today we also paid a special tribute to our fellow Onesighter Dale Bryant and the memory of his daughter with our own Bubbles for Brianna. For those of you who know him Dale Bryant is truly a strong and devoted man. Today we want him to know how much we care for him and that we are there for him in mind, spirit and body.

Detroit week 2 Day number 1
By mfigart
Our first week was excellent and our first day of week number two was no exception. It was a fabulous day. We got to dispense to two schools and saw 261 children 239 of them had need. Our mascot bird which was affectionatly named OneSight had her babies over the weekend. It appears she found a nicer home though :( . I would like to give some Kudos to our Doctors. They have been fantastic. The hard work that they put in everyday is just amazing. Also want to wish our fellow Canadians Trevor, Angela, Asha, Zinny and Mary a happy Victoria Day ( Fête de la Reine) Long live the Queen.

Detroit Day 4 and 5 and first week done!
By mfigart
We have finished our first week! We have seen 1422 children and 1240 had need. It has been a exciting week. After some technical difficulties EYEVAN is rocking and pushing them out as fast as ever. KUDOS to the people in the van and the lab they are doing a fabulous job. Friday night the entire team went to the Tigers game and almost saw history being made with Verlander almost throwing his third no-hitter. It went all the way to the second out of the 9th inning. There was fireworks at the end of the game and I like to think that they were OneSight and the diiference we are making for this wonderful city.

That is a testament to the Detroit Public Schools and their screening. I would like to take a minute to shout out to our wonderful volunteers. Ford Motor Company has been absolutely amazing with their partnership and support. They have really made this mission run smoothly. Also to the mission coordinators the food we have had so far has been absolutely amazing. You ROCK

A story from Cindy Coleman SGH Sage Beach, MO
How do you make a friend? Multiplied by 38 more. Come to the Detroit Clinic. We have the most amazing people. I have made some great friends across the Luxottica Family and I am richer for that. The 1st day was AWESOME and the 2nd day is sure to be even better.
I want to take a second to thank our volunteers. We have had the pleasure to work with some great people from Ford, DPS, Lions and of course all the family of Luxottica brands.
Make sure you check out the pictures from our dispensing at the school today.

Detroit 2012 first day.
By mfigart
The first day was a very succesful and exciting day. 261 children screened and 234 with need. 90 percent need. It was so fulfilling to help the children of Detroit today. Today went smoothly with the exception of some generator issues with EYEVAN. Never fear though we should have it up and running very soon. We had some good stories today.
Maliek and Lyndelle best friends Fisher Lower School going through the clinic together and getting glasses together. It was a excellent experience and now they are stylin.
Amber had a +6.50 with a -1.25 and had badly broken glasses and without them she couldnt see at all. We are so excited to be able to help her see properly.
After such a succesful day we are really looking forward to an even better day two.
