Walk a mile in her shoes!

By shavens

Folks how fortunate are we to have a person to call when we have a flat tire.  Or how convient is it to use our cell phones to order out or communicate to friends.

Yesturday at clinic we were able to see the smile of an participant that walked 40 miles to receieve our services.  This is where the passion for serving others is realized.  Everything you do for OneSight is realized in these missions.  Thank you for the way you contribute, financially and/or mentally.

The Mountains

By shavens

Today we witnessed one of the most interesting areas of the region.  We were in the mountains today and we had to take an adventure.  Riding up the mountains on a bumpy unpaved road was interesting.  When you add the overlook of the mountain scenery, this was an experience to live.  The local village also received us by a parade of friends and family.  The custom of their hospitality and serventhood was one to marvel.  We had a celebration dance and broke bread together.

Pictures will surely follow, but there are many stories to tell.  Team Ecuador has experience yet another great moment.

The team that likes to win!

By shavens

We are made up of a very hard working and passionate team.  Team Ecuador is having a ball enjoying the expressions and gratitude of others.  If you were only here to see the team ban together to unpack and set up.  It was an concert in motion.  A line stretched from unloading the truck to placing each box in it's particular space.  We formed the Human Ecuador Chain.  The bond can't be broken!  We are here to serve, and we LOVE it!

Team Ecuador continues to experience unique things.  Everyone is in great spirits and very safe.  The volcano is miles away and everyone wanted to let their families know they are well.

We are Team Ecuador

By shavens

Hi everyone at home!  It has only been a couple of days here and our clinic has been held up a little bit (government strikes again).  We are all very excited to get in the clinic and help all of the people.  We are definitely a diverse group but Onesight has brought us together for a great cause!  We can't thank our family and friends enough for all of your help, love, and support!  We will surely have more stories soon.  Love you all!  Dr. Abby!

Preparing for Ecuador!

By shavens

We are just days away from an experience of a lifetime.  Team members are actively communicating and sharing packing tips and memories from past missions.  This blog will be our voice across the miles over the next few weeks.  Our voice to share our experiences with family, friends, co-workers and each other.  Each day this page will be updated with highlights from our mission so we can share the emotions and experience with you.

We are comprised of a diverse team from across the globe including the United States, Italy and Croatia representing Target Optical, Sears Optical, Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, Sunglass Hut, Italy Lauriano - Sedico and Agordo, Wholesale and Supply Chain.  We are off to Rio Bamba Ecuador to provide eye exams and recycled eyewear to thousands of natives who don't have the opportunity to do so on their own.

Here is a little background about OneSight and our Global Clinics:

OneSight is a family of charitable programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. Sponsored by Luxottica Group, OneSight programs have helped more than 7 million people over its 20-year history.

Each year, OneSight conducts two-week clinics in developing countries where our doctors and trained volunteers provide free eye exams and recycled eyewear to thousands of people in need. To date, we’ve run 175 clinics in 35 different developing countries. This year, we have planned 20 clinics in developing countries around the world. For a complete list of Clinic locations, visit www.onesight.org.

We also have a donation page for our mission if you wish to help support our efforts available at this site : http://onesight.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.donate  (you can type in a participants name or type in Ecuador to view all participants.  We dearly appreciate and support you are willing to give.

Please follow our blog and live the experience with us!
