Clinic Dramatically Changes Student’s Vision
OneSight volunteers saw many students with incredible visual need during the recent Detroit Regional Clinic (April 25 – May 6). One young man had trouble moving through the Clinic stations because his vision was so poor. Doctors detected that one eye needed a high plus prescription (+13.00), and the other eye had an implant that had shifted, which left him virtually blind.
“I knew immediately that this young man was in a desperate situation,” said Greg Martin, Clinic volunteer. “He looked through me rather than at me. I directed him to the lunch area as we processed his paperwork and it was obvious he didn’t know where to go. After helping him to the room, I watched as he struggled to know which end of the box lunch to open. I sat with him for a while taking his food out of the box and explaining what each item was. He was so thankful. This small interaction reinforced why we do what we do.”
This young man will receive new glasses soon that improve his vision tremendously!
