OneSight Helps 334 Chicago Veterans
OneSight volunteers and doctors in Chicago provided much needed eye care for 334 Chicago area veterans as part of an annual Stand Down event last month. Hosted by the Veterans Administration, Stand Down is held for veterans of all armed services. The majority of veterans who benefit from the program are homeless.
The partnership with Stand Down began in 1999 and has expanded over the years with the support of all Luxottica Optical brands and OneSight. In 11 years, more than 3,000 veterans have received eye care and eyewear through this event. Readers are dispensed onsite, and prescription eyewear is manufactured at Luxottica Optical Manufacturing facility in Dallas. Veterans can then pick up their eyewear at a Chicago social service agency.
“The people we serve at Stand Down are often times forgotten," said Michael Maziarek, New Store Operations & Special Projects Manager for Pearle Vision and event coordinator. “It’s an honor to partner with all Luxottica retail brands, OneSight and Stand Down to give back to those who have served in the armed forces. Our hope is that a new pair of eyewear will lead to a better quality of life for these veterans."
In addition to eye care services, veterans receive food, clothing, dental checkups, HIV screenings and social services assistance during the event.
