OneSight Patients Overcome Obstacles to See

The recent OneSight Global Clinic to India, November 7 – 19, proved to be amazing for both patients and volunteers. The team blog included many touching stories that documented their two-week journey. Meet a few of the patients whose lives will be forever changed by the eye care and eyewear they received:

  • Eight-year-old Nazia, who had strabismus (crossed eyes), traveled more than 110 kilometers to attend the Clinic with her mother. Dr. Ali Hussen and Dr. Nishi Mehdiratta both volunteers from LensCrafters worked together to find her the perfect pair of glasses. There were no words to describe the look on her face when she saw her world clearly for the first time. She left the Clinic beaming ear to ear!
  • 70-year-old Sarwan had never worn glasses. He begged, bartered and pleaded for a ride to the Clinic from his village. Once he got there, his wait was more than two hours in the hot sun. But the moment team members put the glasses on his face, he starting crying and went around the dispensing area thanking everyone over and over again! As he left, he looked out over the fields of his homeland and threw his hands over his head in thankfulness.
  • Clinic volunteer Cindy Borges dispensed glasses to a 65-year-old woman named Konapreea, who had been without glasses for 15 years! She needed a very strong prescription and explained that she was not able to continue her job as a seamstress because she couldn’t see. When the glasses were placed on her face, it was if her world went from black and white to color. Konapreea was so thankful to have her vision back that she dropped to the ground and started blessing Cindy by touching her legs and feet.
