OneSight Receives Humanitarian Award from ICO
The Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) recently recognized OneSight with the Humanitarian Award during their “Class Reunion and Alumni Awards” ceremony. This annual event honors excellence and leadership in education, philanthropy, research and patient care, as well as outstanding contributions to ICO and the optometric profession.
Since 2004, OneSight has partnered with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and Communities in Schools to provide clear vision to more than 48,000 students through temporary vision Clinics. Faculty and students from ICO have helped staff these Clinics over the years. Inspired to do more, ICO invested additional resources to operate a permanent vision center that provides year-round care to CPS students.
The collaboration between OneSight and ICO extends beyond vision Clinics. The OneSight Research Foundation has provided $75,000 in grants to ICO and awarded $18,000 in scholarships to nine ICO students. In 2010, OneSight donated $5,000 to ICO’s Foundation, the Chicago Eye Institute.
Janet Duke, OneSight Senior Manager Global Operations, was honored to accept the Humanitarian Award during ICO’s Awards dinner. “Strong partnerships are core to our program,” said Janet. “The support we have received from ICO and CPS has helped bring our vision of sustainable vision care to life in Chicago.”
