Research Foundation Supports JDRF
Since 2002, the OneSight Research Foundation has awarded $185,000 in grants to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to support diabetic retinopathy studies. Recently, the OneSight Board heard first-hand about the impact research dollars have on creating scientific advancements that aide patients suffering from this disease.
During the Pearle Vision Summit (October 23-27) in New Orleans, attendees heard from Carl Marks, Executive Director of the Louisiana JDRF Chapter. Diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 12, Carl understood at a young age the risks of his disease. “I remember learning a list of long-term effects that included heart disease, nerve disease and kidney damage. None of those symptoms scared me as much as reading the word blindness on the page. At that moment, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to finding a cure to juvenile diabetes. The money we receive from the OneSight Foundation ensures that the substantial progress we've seen in retinopathy science is translated into vision saving treatments for people with diabetes."
