Video: Hope for Hurricane Victims
OneSight volunteers came together to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. EyeLeen, OneSight’s Vision Van, traveled to two of New Jersey’s hardest hit areas in Oceanport and Moonachie to assist those being housed at Red Cross Shelters. Watch the video featuring stories about the impact OneSight relief efforts had on Hurricane victims and volunteers.
50 OneSight volunteers worked together to provide complete eye exams and eyewear donated by Luxottica USA and Oakley. More than 160 victims received care after losing many of their belongings during the storm.
One patient in Moonachie came to the Vision Van wearing glasses that were crooked with cracked lenses. She explained to volunteers through tears that these were her back-up glasses as her newer pair washed away with the kitchen table.
“There wasn’t a person there that didn’t have a story about the flood,” said Dawn Yager, OneSight Project Manager. “But despite their emotional circumstances, the victims we met formed a strong community to support one another. It was clear that we were providing more than just vision care, but hope to those who lost so much.”
“To see devastation of this magnitude in your own community, and then to have organizations like OneSight step in to help is just extraordinary,” said Molly Higgins, Project Manager with TopCon, a Luxottica vendor partner who also volunteered to help. “We feel humbled to be a small part of this effort.”
Field and store associates in impacted areas are encouraged to continue using the OneSight Voucher program to help those in need. Call 1-888-935-4589 for questions or support regarding OneSight’s Voucher program.
